Vicky and I have crossed paths dozens of times. We grew up in the same city, but because I didn’t go to the giant public schools in the area, I know NO ONE. True story. When people play the “Do you know xyz-person” game, I always say no. I went to a tiny school, and know these 50 people really well, but that’s about it! Vicky and I had a few friends in common and I’d see her in passing. I remember her to be super stylish, have a ton of friends, and always be smiling. My insanely awkward/quirky self may have been a bit envious of how awesome she was. 🙂 I bumped into her again at Driver’s Ed, and then a couple of times over the next few years.
I think their story is hilarious. Greg, an intern at CVS, also thought that Vicky was awesome. Sadly for him (at the time), Vicky wasn’t impressed with him, and brushed his attention off, but continued to boss him around. After all, he’s an intern, right? Greg persistently continued to nudge his way closer to her and today, Vicky tells me that she started to tolerate him and then went on a date together. Sadly, timing wasn’t right, and they said it was “uberly awkward”. Several months later, they try the date thing again, and everything clicked. They had amazing food at No. 9 and amazing conversation. When Greg purchased his home, he made sure it was one that Vicky approved of. Everything fell into place. It felt right. The funny thing is that even today, I think I hear her say, “I tolerate him”. 🙂 (She lies. She adores him.)
Vicky and Greg’s wedding day started with a traditional Chinese tea ceremony at Vicky’s mother’s house in Quincy (seconds away from my house!). Vicky’s family went first, sending thoughtful wishes to the new couple, and adorning the couple with lots of gold. Vicky’s older sister narrated for Greg’s non-Chinese speaking family. After Vicky’s family was done blinging the two out in gold jewelry and red envelopes, Greg’s family did the same. A common Cantonese response to the serving of tea is, “hoo teem, ahhh” roughly translates to “(the tea is) very sweet”. Hearing it translated in English was funny: “Is the tea sweet?” “Yes, the tea is very sweet”. Haha. I loved it. 🙂
Their western/American wedding ceremony and reception were at one location at the Villa – Saphire Estate in East Bridgewater. Though it was a bit toasty and sunny, a miraculous fluffy cloud hovered over the entire ceremony during the entire duration, providing welcomed shade and coolness. (side note: I’ve been SO lucky with weather this year. I think all that good karma from last year is helping me in 2015. Note to self: must consistently do more good deeds…)
After the ceremony and reception formalities (like Van and Lisa’s emotional MOH speech), the dance floor was never empty. Greg wins the award for most hilarious groom. I loved his dance moves and facial expressions. I’ll let the photos do the talking.
I cannot wait for the film from Karen and her team at Promessa Studios to come out!
