Frequently Asked Questions about Boston Family Photography
What should I wear?
I’ve got you covered. Here’s a guide to “What to wear for my family session”
Who will photograph my session?
Nicole or Karen!
Karen is the the ultimate newborn and child whisperer! She’s absolutely amazing. In addition to being an incredible photographer and videographer, she previously was a full-time nanny for a family with three daughters, all under the age of four! She’s the best when it comes to Boston Baby photos. Who knew that being a nanny would make her one of the best professional child photographers around?
Where will my session be?
Your photo sessions can be in your home or in my studio in Boston.
I’d love to photograph you and your little ones in your home. We’ve been a children’s photographer for over a decade, and we’re very well versed in great lighting, no matter what the space! Some families are concerned there’s not enough natural light, but leave the lighting concerns to us! Another benefit of photographing in the home is that we’ll be capturing real life. It’s where your kids are most comfortable and natural.
We can also go outdoors to some of the Boston hot spots like Boston Common, Boston Public Gardens, or Beacon Hill. Let me know what feel and vision is for your photo session, and I’ll happily send you some more location suggestions.
Will the photos be retouched?
Yes. All photos will be corrected for tone, light, and color. We’ll also gently retouch faces so that everyone looks their best!
Will you help me hang the artwork on my walls?
Absolutely. All of our wall art collections include a professional installer so that it looks perfect in your home!
Will I get the digital files?
Absolutely. The corresponding digital file is included with any physical product you order. Alternately, you can also simply purchase the full set of digital files.
Do I need professional photography?
It’s a luxury, and no one needs luxury, but family sessions are something that I believe in. If there’s anything that being a mother has taught me, it’s that family is everything.
How often do most families have photos photographed?
New parents often hire us to document their newborn’s first year (maternity, newborn, 3 months, 6 months, 9 months, and 12 months). Some then hire us for photography sessions once per year afterwards! Like all parents will you tell, these moments and memories go by so quickly. It’s amazing
I have plenty of photos of kids on my phone. Do I really need a professional photography?
The best thing about phones is how easily accessible the camera is! Some parents capture all the moments and memories of their kids through their phone, but the challenging part is these thousands of pictures never see the light of day. These pictures end up staying cold and lonely on the device. This is why having a photographer help you print the artwork in albums or wall art is so important. Preserve the moment in printed form!
What’s the difference between this and the photo people at the mall?
I’ll capture your family’s story. I’m pretty sure the lovely folks at the mall just took your passport photo. Mall photo studios run high volume businesses and often hire high school kids that don’t care about the moments and memories of your photography. They just want their paycheck.
Karen and I are different. We care. We care a lot! Your photo sessions will be about the beautiful moments, about capturing life as a mother, the energy of your child’s laugh, the joy when they look at you and poke your nose, and all of the things that you love about living in New England.
As a Boston, MA family photographer that focuses on emotive photography and ‘day in the life’ images. I hope to provide a photo session that personalized to you.
What groups are you associated with?
In terms of national association that emphasizes on documentary and reportage family photographers that use a natural ‘Day in the Life’ approach,I love being a part of Family Photojournalist Association
Can I purchase a gift certificate?
Absolutely! Email me at nicole@nicolechanphotography.com and I’d be happy to send a gift certificate.
Will you come to the hospital to take photos of the baby after I deliver?
Our team is available to come to the hospital to take photographs of your newest family member! Please send us an email if you’re interested in a Fresh 48 session. If you’re interested in taking photos on your own at the hospital, here are 13 Tips to take photos of your newborn at the hospital.
