EVENT SPACES AVAILABLE AT THE STATE ROOM BOSTON FOR YOUR BOSTON WEDDING EVENT VENUE:

The Great Room

The Great Room hosts a 2,400 square feet of glass for a panoramic view of the skyline! It can host 650 people for dinner. The two floor wedding event venue space has a balcony that is most commonly used for cocktail hour. The balcony is connected to the main floor via a flowing staircase.

When standing on either floor, guests can soak up the floor to ceiling window view from the sixty state street skyscraper.

It is an iconic event space with endless possibilities for event design. It’s breathtaking view of the city is amazing for wedding photography. The interior is has a modern style.

My all-time favorite to take State Room Boston wedding photos is The Great Room! The windows are floor to ceiling (20 feet high and 120 feet across) and offer panoramic views of the city WHILE still being in the city. It’s remarkable. The Great Room can host 650 people for a wedding dinner. I love it when couples have their ceremony in this space, mainly because it means that brides can walk down the floating staircase into the ceremony space. It’s rare that I’m able to be indoors from a high vantage point, photographing the bride and all of her guests AND the skyline all at once. In terms of State Room wedding photos, this room is where it’s at.

The Harborside Salon

Harborside Salon is the most luxurious event space in the city, perfect for any Boston wedding. With a gorgeous view from 33 stories high, Harborside has been host to hundreds of weddings. For those looking for a more intimate setting at the State Room Boston, the salon offers two smaller salons with retractable walls that can be used for any event.

Cityside

Cityside seamlessly blends historical pedigree and modern elegance, with an open floor plan and 8 windows showcasing the breathtaking views of the financial hub.

DO YOU HAVE ANY TIPS FOR PEOPLE TAKING SELFIES AT THE STATE ROOM BOSTON?

The State Room Boston view is the star of the show! The floor to ceiling windows present an colorful sunset show and a romantic night presentation of city lights. The difficult thing is that it can be rather difficult to take selfies because of the reflections in the windows and the backlit.

If possible, use an external flash to balance out the light.

In a pinch, have someone else hold a phone with the flashlight on, and don’t use flash!

When in doubt, just ask your trusty favorite Boston photographer to take a photo of you at the State Room Boston. Most likely than not, the photographer will be wandering around cocktail hour and the reception to take photos of the wedding guests!

SHOULD I GET UPLIGHTING FOR THE STATE ROOM BOSTON?

Boston wedding couples who love to party ontop this sixty state street skyscraper might love the color changes that uplighting services can bring to the wedding reception venue.

Uplighting could really transform a space, with warm amber colors for dinner, to all sorts of energetic colors during the wedding reception party! (… especially if there’s EDM or house music.) It also makes hanging out at the State Room Boston bar look super cool.

As a Boston wedding photographer, I really love the effect that uplighting has on photography, especially at the State Room Boston. It brings an extra colorful dimension.

and if you’re wondering, No – Uplighting will not take away from the State Room Boston view!

IS THERE A BRIDAL SUITE?

Behind the balcony in the State Room Boston Great Room is a small hidden room that is perfect for the bridal suite. Though it’s not a traditional hotel room, wedding bridal parties can get ready here before the ceremony. It’s a perfect location for bridal parties to chill out during the cocktail hour as well if they don’t want to join the rest of the wedding reception guests.

The wedding catering staff there do a fantastic job, and if you’re part of the wedding party that is hiding there during wedding cocktail hour, the catering group will bring your h’orderves!

CAN I HAVE OPEN BAR AT THE THE STATE ROOM BOSTON WEDDING RECEPTION?

Absolutely. Please ask Longwood / State Room Boston about their bar fee.

The quality of their house beer, house wine, and house spirits selection is amazing.

The wedding bartenders are always knowledgeable and friendly. They provide a fantastic service! I’ve attended many The State Room Boston wedding receptions and have heard many guests rave about how funny the wedding bartenders are.

CAN I VISIT THE STATE ROOM BOSTON?

Site tours of the State Room Boston wedding venue are available upon request. Check out their site here to contact them!

WHAT VENUE FEES SHOULD I BE AWARE OF?

Each wedding at the State Room Boston is a little different and of course, The State Room Boston wedding venue is not like a typical Hotel wedding. Be sure to ask about the fee surrounding tax, gratuity, etc. Be sure to also ask about wedding overtime fee and if there’s a wedding cake cutting fee.

WHAT KINDS OF TABLES ARE BEST FOR THE STATE ROOM BOSTON?

This is such a loaded question! I love how blank this event space is. Any couple can really choose how to design the State Room Boston Great Room for the wedding receptions.

You can choose long rectangular table design for a wedding banquet feel, a big 10ft round table setting that is common in classic traditional New England wedding receptions, smaller round tables, or a combination of all the above tables!

WHAT PHOTOGRAPHY TIPS SHOULD MY PHOTOGRAPHER KNOW?

It’s a beautiful wedding event space, but can be a tricky venue to light evenly.

There are two main reasons why lighting the State Room Boston Great Room during weddings is tricky:

The first has to do with the gigantic windows in the State Room Boston venue. For early wedding ceremonies, the light that shines through the large windows in the Great Room is extremely bright. My lighting preferences is to have two off-camera flashes so that I can balance the outside light with the indoor. Coupled with dynamic range in our cameras and good post processing, this Boston wedding venue’s photos will be as amazing as it is to the eye!

The second reason this State Room Boston wedding event space is tricky is because of the high ceilings. Traditional on-camera flash bouncing is not as possible because the ceilings are so high! Luckily, the contemporary design has gray walls, so bouncing on-camera flash off the walls is a possibility. I try to minimize the amount of flash I use so that I am not distracting to guests, but sometimes with challenging cityside venues like this, it’s necessary!

WHAT ARE THE POPULAR RESTAURANTS AND BAKERIES IN NORTH END?

Mike’s Pastries, Modern Pastry, and Bova’s are the trifecta of Italian bakeries. Everything from Italian cookies, pizelles, tiramisu, and of course, cannolis!

The North End has incredible restaurants with insanely fast service, too. Neptune’s Lobster has the best lobster rolls in the state. The Daily Catch has spectacular aglio olio squid ink pasta with delicious garlic.

During COVID, you can grab your food and go to the harbor to enjoy the ocean view. You can also head to Christopher Columbus park to sit on the benches for a water view, or a view of the Marriott Custom House clocktower. The North End always has an event or a celebration going on. If you’re lucky, you might be able to catch one of those parades on your way to the wedding. At the same time, if you’re driving, be sure to leave extra time to get to the wedding in case there is Boston traffic.

My associate photographer and I used to go to Bova’s after Boston wedding days to grab ourselves some pastries and food so that we can eat them while we edit ceremony and reception photos the next day!

WHAT SHOULD I LOOK FOR IN A PHOTOGRAPHER WEDDING VENDORS FOR MY BOSTON STATE ROOM WEDDING?

Every photographer has a different style and varying levels of service.

Light and airy – This photographer style was popularized in Southern California, where most wedding ceremony venues and receptions are outdoors.

Dark and moody – Vivid colors, edgy, and very dramatic. Great for venues that have suspenseful or grungy character. A photographer with this style often has great use of off camera light.

True to life – This is where I live. I like the timeless candids. I’m the photographer for people who prefer photos that look real. They want to remember their ceremony venue and wedding receptions with full authenticity.

In order to capture the Great Room accurately, I provide top notch service with a solid grasp of technical acumen. I’m a photographer that believes that in order to be a good wedding photographer, one must be able to light any situation quickly and efficiently.

The Boston State Room is one of my favorite wedding venues, but as mentioned. It can be tricky to light.

On a wedding day, a photographer doesn’t have time to practice or second guess their lighting setup. After being a wedding photographer for over 500 couples, I truly believe that I can light any wedding event in order to make great pictures.

Most of all, I’ll make it look effortless. I’ve been told I’m a graceful photographer, a hardworking photographer, but a wedding photographer that has her sh’t together. The last thing a wedding event needs is a sweaty, frazzled, and stressed out wedding vendor!

SHOULD I TAKE ENGAGEMENT PHOTOS FOR MY STATE ROOM BOSTON WEDDING?

Yes yes and yes. I love engagement sessions because it allows us to celebrate a fun time in an engaged couples’ life.

The best thing about having engagement photos if you’re having a State Room Boston wedding is that they’ll post six of them in the entrance way in large backlit frames. It makes such a big statement as guests enter the venue!

Note to photographers with State Room Boston wedding events coming up – Make sure the photographs look good in vertical form. That’s the orientation of the large frames!

It’s also fun to create photographs that are not at all related to the wedding. No wedding gown. No wedding bouquet. No wedding tux. Just you and your partner hanging out in a more casual and candid way in Boston.
