“There is awesome and then there is Nicole-Chan-awesome!”
–Ying and Patrick
I’m the Boston wedding photographer for those who say they are awkward in front of a camera
I’m described as a serial fried chicken eater and lover of bad puns. I speak quickly (so keep up) and am more excited about your wedding cake than you are.
I wan’t always a Boston wedding photographer. I studied finance and computer science and started my career as a management consultant. Photography was always in my life and I photographed everything – families, headshots, nightclubs, and was even a staff photographer for Playboy for 8 years. So why weddings, you ask? I believe in the power of commitment, meaningful moments… and I really like cake. (Yeah… I’m really just here for the cake.)
I photograph *real* people of all sizes, shapes, colors, genders, and dessert preferences
I photograph real people who love each other.
I love the unscripted moments.
I admire couples who go through hardships together.
I’m here for couples couldn’t care less about the perfect styled photo of their shoes.
Behind the Scenes & My team
I’m constantly climbing ON things, climbing IN things, and squeezing myself into the most uncomfortable positions to get the best angle. The photos above are pretty tame… usually because my team is too busy laughing at my antics to photograph me. I love what I do, and I have fun doing it… no matter how sore I get the next day.
Though the business is my name, there are so many people on our team. Without them, this photography and videography studio wouldn’t exist.
Karen – Associate photographer, lead filmmaker, album designer, wall art designer, and the one that keeps me sane. I’ve known her for over half my life. She knows what I’m thinking before I think it. She’s the peanut butter to my jelly.
Jason – Resident FAA107 certified drone pilot and medium-form film nerd
Caitlin, Eric, and Micha are three others that are integral to our photo and video team. Their creativity and passion for visuals continue to inspire me.
Bit by the travel bug: 55 Countries and counting
Most of my dollars go towards plane tickets, point – accruing credit cards, and international home-stays. My favorite experiences include diving the Red Sea’s Thistlegorm shipwreck, eating deep fried bamboo worms in a Northern Thailand Hilltribe, going on a cave expedition to the world’s largest cave. (Featured on Petzl and Passion Passport) and road tripping through New Zealand and Australia.
My little brother, Alex, inspires me
My little brother, Alex, is on the Autism spectrum. I am constantly grateful for the patience of his therapists and caretakers. My mother, with all her strength, inspires me. My photography company donates a portion to help families with Autism. To all my past couples and future couples, I thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for not only allowing me to photograph the first day of your life together, but also enabling me to help other families like mine.
Alex can assemble puzzles better and faster than anyone I know. He takes incredibly complex ones (1000+ pieces from MULTIPLE puzzles), flips them upside down onto their cardboard side, and piece them together in a matter of minutes. He’s also got a funny thing where he likes to line things up (hence the magazines and other rectangular items) on his bedroom floor. Alex, you’ve played such a big part how I see the world. Thank you.
Giving back is very important to me
For each client that I work with, I give back to local and international non-profits. To date, I have donated over $200,000 in dollars and in-kind services (photo, video, content creation, and strategy consulting). I am a volunteer photographer with Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep, an organization that specializes in remembrance photography to parents suffering the loss of a baby with a free gift of professional portraiture. On a monthly basis, my team contributes to Kiva, a non-profit organization that allows individuals and teams to lend money via the Internet to low-income and underserved entrepreneurs and students in over 70 countries. I believe in supporting our local community – MARE (Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange) and Women’s Lunch Place (Women-only day shelter in Boston).
“To do more for the world, than the world does for you. That is success” -Henry Ford
Advertising photo and video
In addition to photographing weddings, I love creating photo and video content for companies. Everything from headshots, magazine editorial portraits, social media content, to company story films. My portrait and commercial work can be seen here!
Sledder, the laziest Husky
For most of the day, she’s sleeping under my desk or using my foot as a pillow.
Fun fact #1: When I was 23, and Sledder was 9 months, she and I competed in an urban mushing competition where she pulled me on my bike.
Fun fact #2: I didn’t learn how to ride a bike until age 23
Awards and Press
These couples have have allowed me into their lives and I’ve had the honor of creating authentic photographs of their relationships. In the last 10 years, I have photographed 300+ weddings. These photographs have attracted the eyes of my peers, idols, and publishers – who have graciously given me many shiny awards.
(and now here’s what my copywriter told me to write…)
