Best wedding cakes in Boston
I’ve been known to be the expert in wedding cakes in Boston because I’ve eaten over 500 slices wedding cake.
Having a wedding cake is an essential part of any ceremony, but it can be difficult to find the perfect one for your big day. There are many factors that go into choosing a wedding cake, such as price, flavor and size. To help you narrow down your options here are some tips from the best local bakeries!
I’ve asked my favorite bake shops what advice they would give to couples looking into wedding cakes in Boston
Here is their wedding cake planning advice:
Silver Whisk Bake Shop thinks it’s best to be prepared in order to create a good relationship and dynamic between you and the baker. Here is what they suggest you send over to begin
(1) Your wedding date to see if they have availability
(2) Your wedding location / venue to see if they serve that area and what delivery and setup fees would be
(3) Anticipated guest count / # of guests that would be served
(4) If you have a specific cake design or style in mind, include photos or links for reference. That way, you can get a more accurate quote. The more info, the better! If you’re unsure of cake designs at the moment, that’s totally fine too!
(5) If you have a budget/price range, include that too
Little Miss Cupcape’s advice is simple. “This is your day! Do what you like, not your guests!”
The most helpful thing a couple can do according to Confectionately Yours Bakery is reference pictures! Swatches of the color scheme, florals, centerpieces and more can all be used as inspiration to the baker.
According to Artisan Bake Shop, it’s a must to “your wedding colors and style ironed out before choosing a wedding cake”

Oakleaf Cakes Bake Shop suggests having an understanding of the role your cake will have at your wedding cake. Some “really want the cake to be a focal point, a conversation starter, and something that people will remember after the event”. If this is the case, find a baker who is able to fulfill those needs. And Budget accordingly.

What’s your company story? How and why did you start your company?
I never intended to bake, I had always wanted to be a chef and make savory foods. Unfortunately, my joy of eating delicious foods did not translate to me cooking them well! Through culinary school and working at different food industry businesses, I realized I was much better at baking and pastry.
One day, one of my friends from culinary school asked me to make his wedding cake. I blindly agreed and it was honestly one of the most stressful things I had ever done then! I told myself I would never make another cake again.
Somehow, I successfully made his wedding cake and it actually looked pretty good! I posted a photo of it online, and ever since then, more and more people started to ask me to make their cakes. I agreed, and with time, practice, and patience, this stressful task turned into something beautiful.
Baking and designing confections transformed into a (delicious) canvas where I can express myself through creativity AND get to be a little part of people’s special life occasions and celebrations. Silver Whisk Bake Shop has provided me the opportunity to do what I love by combining my two passions of delicious, beautiful treats and connecting with others.
What is the coolest thing about your wedding cake company?
We’re a company that embraces ALL types of people no matter their sexual orientation, skin color, background, and beliefs. You can order smaller cakes directly online for pickup and delivery. We also ship some confections nationwide! Woohoo! 3 cool things 😀
What is the fan favorite item on your menu? Also, what is YOUR favorite thing on your menu?
The most popular flavor on our cake menu is Fresh Strawberry (classic vanilla butter cake + vanilla Swiss meringue buttercream + tangy strawberry compote). My favorite thing on the menu is The Petite Four which are stunningly delicious bite-size confections decorated one by one by hand. It’s truly a labor of love!
If a couple were to ask for a ballpark price range of what most couples spend on a wedding cake (or other desserts) with you, what would you tell them?
The average client typically invests $1,475+ for a wedding cake that serves 120 guests. They can expect the price to range from $9 to $16+ per guest plus $75+ for delivery and setup.

What’s your company story? How and why did you start your company?
We started in a one-bedroom apt in 2008. It was just me fresh out of art school needing a job. My husband, Tyler helped me with making the website and we quickly became the only place offering super customized and sculpted cakes in Boston. We wanted to fill the niche created by the TV cake shows’ popularity.
Eventually, wgot busy enough and needed to expand into our first storefront in Winthrop, MA in 2010 where our first employees were hired. We gained popularity in doing the local bday and wedding cakes as well as crazy things like our sculpted stormtrooper cake which went viral in 2012. We’ve also been on several cake TV shows throughout the years.
We knew we wanted to eventually move our operation to Boston so when we stumbled on the perfect retail spot we jumped and made the move. Our staff even helped us build and decorate a lot of the store ourselves. Our current store also has a cafe out front where you can get locally sourced coffee and tea as well as our pastries and cakes to-go all baked on-site from scratch. All this while gawking at our custom wedding cakes in the window.
What is the coolest thing about your wedding cake company?
We can literally make anything into a cake. We employ local artists who apply their unique skills to sugar to create crazy cakes each week. Our staff is really what makes our company what it is. We have amazing artists as cake consultants who work closely with you to design your cake. On our team are talented artists who switch from their usual mediums and work with sugar for their day as our decorators.
Our pastry artists who as bakers work their magic every day creating our wide array of cake flavors and pastries including vegan options daily! The baristas on our team are college students covering a wide array of studies and are equally talented in their line of work. We all work together for a common goal of making really high-quality baked goods for our high-quality customers!
What is the fan favorite item on your menu? Also, what is YOUR favorite thing on your menu?
Hard to pick just one! The cafe favorites are our chocolate chip banana bread and vegan peanut butter cookie.
My favorite cake changes with the seasons but I consistently enjoy our Aztec chocolate cake. It’s an olive oil cake with lots of cocoa plus some cinnamon and cayenne for a kick.
If a couple were to ask for a ballpark price range of what most couples spend on a wedding cake (or other desserts) with you, what would you tell them?
Our tiered cakes start at $6/serving for simple elegant designs. The price goes up from there at $75/hr of extra decorating time needed to create your custom detailing. Typically a cake with some sugar flowers or figurines or more intricate details will fall closer to the $10/serving range.
We also offer dessert bars starting at $8/person and cupcakes starting at $3.25 each.

Little Miss Cupcape
What’s your company story? How and why did you start your company?
My name is Taylor Stump, and I’m the owner and founder of Little Miss Cupcape. My Story began in the spring of 2014 when I graduated from Manhattan College with a degree in business marketing and a minor in communications. While in college for business, I catered birthdays, graduation events, parties, and much more, but I always knew that I was missing out on my true aspirations as a baker.
I envisioned an enchanting bakery where unique and crafty cupcakes met the beautiful scenery by the sea. Yet, it couldn’t be just any ocean, it had to be the Cape Cod seashore that I grew up loving! When I was a child, summering on the Cod was a family tradition that I looked forward to every year. So, I was thrilled when my family decided to move to the Cape full time. Halfway through my senior year of college, I realized I could not wait any longer to pursue my cupcake dreams. In partnership with my business savvy mom and the help from my family, I was able to open my first Little Miss Cupcape on historic Main Street in Hyannis, Massachusetts in June 2014.
Ever since, I have become obsessed with baking . . . turning my daily routine into eat, sleep, bake, repeat! I love coming up with new, innovative ideas to make the perfect cupcake as unique and tasty as possible using only the purest ingredients and REAL butter! Not only do my cupcakes taste great, but the detail and time that I put into each one makes my cupcakes stand out from the rest. Baking has always brought me joy and been a big part of my life, starting when I was a little girl with an Easy-Bake™ oven. Although I long ago outgrew using baking toys, I have found a true passion for cupcakes and feel so blessed to have started my first bakery in the heart of Cape Cod! I hope you will enjoy my cupcakes just as much as I enjoy making them for you!

Confectionately Yours Bakery
What’s your company story? How and why did you start your company?
Our business started in 2013, after years and years of making small pastries and cakes for friends. My father and I decided to take the leap and open a shop and see where the adventure led us! We are both completely self taught, and love the challenges and unique ideas we get to bring to life for people through cake!
What is the coolest thing about your wedding cake company?
The coolest thing about our bakery is that we are a TRUE family business. My father and I own the shop and my mother and husband are always helping us as well. Because we are so small, we are able to offer a more one on one connection with our clients, taking the time to help them create the perfect cakes for their events. We always tell our clients, unlike some of the larger cake companies, they will be dealing with the same people from the initial consultation, through designing, finalizing and ultimately delivering. We do all of the parts of this, and wear all of the hats!
What is the fan favorite item on your menu? Also, what is YOUR favorite thing on your menu?
The fan favorites on our menu are definitely the cupcakes. We change our cupcake flavors with each season, and we have people always asking for when their favorites will be back, or what unique flavors will be out next!

Cake Monstah
What’s your company story? How and why did you start your company?
I created the concept for my company when I was a senior in high school in 2010. I went on to pursue a pastry arts degree at Johnson & Wales university and then worked my way up in the food industry in Boston. After becoming an executive pastry chef and working for other companies for years I decided it was time to go full-time for myself. Since 2019 I have been pursuing my company full-time with great success and support from all our very loyal customers!
What is the coolest thing about your wedding cake company?
One of the best things about our company is our attention to detail and personal connection to our clients! We do not overbook ourselves and we do not have a mass production facility like most of our competitors. We only take on one wedding a day so that your order truly gets all of the attention to detail it deserves. We want our customers to feel special and know that each cake we make is customized exactly to their desires!
What is the fan favorite item on your menu? Also, what is YOUR favorite thing on your menu?
Our most popular cake combination is marble cake with chocolate fudge buttercream. It seems to be a great crowd pleaser for most wedding guests.
My personal favorite item is our double chocolate whoopee pies we create for dessert Buffets!
If a couple were to ask for a ballpark price range of what most couples spend on a wedding cake (or other desserts) with you, what would you tell them?
The average 100 person wedding cake for our clients starts at $600.00 and can upwards of $1000 depending on size and design.
