Many of my Fenway Park wedding couples for 2015 have said, “I didn’t know Fenway was even an option until I saw your wedding on Huffington Post, Cosmopolitan, Boston Weddings, Pinterest, or xyz Wedding blog”. I’ve had incredible editorial success with weddings that I’ve photographed at Boston’s iconic Fenway Park mainly because I find that couples that get married at Fenway Park know what they love, and that’s their family, their friends and the Red Sox!
I’ve photographed Fenway Park weddings at the EMC club, State Street Pavilion, and even ontop of the dugout!
Kathleen and Kevin had a vibrant and energetic Boston Fenway Park EMC club wedding that was a complete reflection of the two of them. They both love sports (of course). The two played in a floor hockey league together. Kevin still plays in an ice hockey and softball league that Kathleen loves to go to and support.
When I first talked to Kathleen and Kathleen’s mom (Hi Patty!), Kathleen told me that they had 9 bridal party people ON EACH SIDE. Some quick brain math added up TWENTY people in the bridal party and I could just picture the Fenway staff saying no to any field access on the day of, mainly because there are so many events going on at Fenway during July, but also because the group was larger. As I got to know Kathleen and more detail about her Boston Fenway wedding, she consistently talked about how awesome her friends were and all of the fun stuff they do together – spending time outdoors, hiking, beach, camping, eating, bar-hopping, and just hanging out. I distinctly remember her saying, “Our favorite thing to do together is definitely hang out with all our friends. You’ll see why when you meet the wedding party”.
The wedding day came, and holy moly. This group was one of the most fun bridal party groups that I’ve ever photographed! They were goofy, so nice, and clearly had a lot of love for their friendships. After we departed a beautiful wedding suite at the Commonwealth Hotel (in the super cool baseball themed elevator), we walked over the Fenway, where we met up with the awesome Carrie Campbell, who graciously told our group that we were allowed field access, so long as we were respectful of the grass and that we moved efficiently through our formal portraits. YESSSSSSSSS! This news was met by lots of cheers, and the bridal party group and I swiftly made it onto the field and made some of the coolest portraits! Afterwards, I took Kathleen and Kevin to the dugout and created some more Fenway Park wedding portraits, just of the two of them! At this point, I’ve been to Fenway over a dozen times for weddings, so I feel like I know my way around the park pretty well (even though that my sense of direction is awful). Still though, everytime I’m there, there’s a sense of awe at what a cool icon this park is for the city of Boston. The beautiful wedding ceremony was held in the seats of Fenway, with the lovely park in the background. Kathleen held a beautiful bouquet of red roses and red peonies – her great grand mother’s favorite flowers. She wore little Red Sox details – on her bracelet and her garter! Kevin also had some cool red sox gear – a tie clip, a baseball hat, and some swanky cufflinks!
The Fenway EMC Club wedding reception was filled with emotional speeches, and some really cool attendees, like Kathleen’s skating coach, and the doctor that delivered Kathleen!
It was an absolute pleasure to photograph such a wonderful couple, surrounded by their wonderful family and the coolest friends (including India DuBois that has a pretty amazing cookie company – The Mint Mixer. Search deep within Instagram, and you can find HILARIOUS cookies that she made for her bachelorette).
Kathleen and Kevin, thank you for allow me to document the first day of your marriage.

That feeling, when your heart gets heavy like it’s too full and about to burst… It fuzzes up my breathing but also makes me feel so alive. It’s a funny thing. My concentration capacity doesn’t allow for me to listen to speeches with full intensity because my eyes are sharp in anticipating expressions and keeping an eye on important individuals. For Ashley and Steve’s wedding reception at Boston’s Fenway Park, that funny feeling came upon me during their letter reading. My ears perked, and I listened to some beautiful words. Because they didn’t have bridal party members, they wrote letters to each other and read them aloud to their intimate group of closest family and friends. I felt so much love in Ashley’s beautiful letter to Steve. She spoke about how wonderful their lives are together and how she’s learning to be a mother figure to their two beautiful boys.
Ashely and Steve’s Boston Fenway wedding reception was meticulously planned. From the comfort foods – BBQ pork ribs, mac and cheese, clam chowders, Fenway franks, and ice cream bar – to the amazing candy bar, it was stunningly decorated. There were also lots of charming Red Sox – themed details at their Fenway wedding reception as well – including a baseball bat, mini baseball bats, custom baseballs with their names and dates, a home plate as a guest book, tickets as seating charts, peanuts and baseball cards as the table centerpieces, and even awesome authentic baseball stitching cufflinks! My absolute favorite little detail of their day – Ashley’s toenails, complete with the Red Sox B!
Megan and Rob make me smile. They’ve given me the chuckles from the first e-mail that Megan sent me over a year ago. She said, “I was so excited when you responded so quickly! I was trying to water my flowers and dropped the hose in excitement”. When I first met Megan and Rob in person at the Fenway area for their engagement session, I was drawn to a few things about her: a) her beautiful red hair b) a sparkling personality to go with said beautiful hair and c) how Rob, the quieter of the two, had a gentle disposition to him. The two were elated to be at Boston’s Fenway Park for their engagement session. I later learned that they were intense Boston sports fans. (I kept up with conversation as much as I could!) I really suck at any sport with a ball, but can completely understand (and relate) to the loyalty and excitement!
At Megan and Rob’s wedding, I felt so connected to them and their families. It was so clear that their main objective for their big day had very little to do with the two of them, but more to celebrate their closest relationships. It was an intimate ceremony in the seats of Fenway park, right next to the Green Monster, with Fenway behind them, and a beautiful portrait of Megan and Rob (from our engagement session) up on the big screen. Rob’s three adorable nephews trotted out first, in custom-made uniforms sewn by their neighbor. Their eyes were wide with awe! The eldest, is in the initial stages of being a die-hard Red Sox fan. He has started asking for Red Sox themed things in his bedroom!
I think the only thing that made the boys even more excited than being at Fenway, was meeting Wally the Green Monster! Wally made a surprise visit to their Fenway wedding reception venue at R10, signed the boys’ hats, gave big hugs, and even shook his booty on the dance floor. He was big hit and brought many big smiles.
Megan and Rob, thank you for allowing me to be a part of your day. You two are beautiful people – both inside and out. I completely agree with your friend – the one that told you that you two are the closest things to soul mates that he’s ever seen.
To my wonderful 2nd photographer, Jeremy, thank you for being awesome. Thanks for bringing so much incredible talent, and reminding me that being a better photographer has fundamental principles of light and composition, but also has significant roots in connecting with people and genuinely caring about your subjects.
“You two are the closest definitions to soulmates I have ever seen.” I can only imagine how this must’ve made Megan feel when Rob’s friend told them this. Their common interests include travel and sports. Lucky for them, they root for the same New England teams and have the same outlook on memorable traveling styles! (They’ve convinced me that Alaskan cruises are not only for old people)
I am VERY excited for their Fall Fenway wedding, and can’t wait to meet all of the kids that will be at their wedding that they keep talking about. 🙂
Special thanks to the awesome ladies at Fenway, allowing us to run all over the field for Megan and Rob’s Fenway engagement photos!
